BREAKING: Clay County jury returns life verdict for Corey Binderim
By a vote of 5-7 (life-death), the jury determined Binderim will be sentenced to life in prison without parole (LWOP).
On October 14, a jury convicted Corey Binderim of first-degree murder. Binderim was a contractor remodeling the victim’s bathroom.
The penalty phase began Wednesday and continued into Thursday with closing arguments. During the penalty phase, the State presented three victim impact statements.

Closing arguments began around 10:00 a.m. After closing arguments, the jury was sent to deliberate.
Around 4:00 this afternoon, the jury returned with its penalty phase verdict. The jury found unanimously all but one aggravating factor was proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
By a vote of 5-7 (life-death), the jury determined Binderim will be sentenced to life in prison without parole (LWOP). Based on the jury’s recommendation, which is less than 8-4 for death, the Court must sentence Binderim to LWOP.
