DeSantis indicates executions will continue.

Although there is no pending death warrant in the State right now, Governor DeSantis suggested late last week that another one could be coming soon.
Just after the execution of Darryl Barwick, Governor DeSantis talked about executions at a press conference in the Panhandle. It can be viewed here.
He explained why there was a slow down in executions during COVID and through the last election cycle but then explained that he plans to continue carrying out executions in the future.
He said “[i]t’s a sad thing that has to happen” but then said that he and his Administration are “trying to get on a more normal pace” with executions. He also commented that there are some “really really bad apples” on Florida’s death row and that he is going to work to ensure victims receive justice (i.e., get to see executions). He continued: “This is the law of the land, and we are going to make sure that it is followed.”
Premeditated ceremonial political killings will not gain Governor DeSantis any votes.
