Florida crimes underlie two prisoners' death sentences commuted by Biden
In an historic move Monday, President Biden commuted the death sentences of 37 of the 40 federal death row prisoners. The crimes underlying 2 of the prisoners’ death sentences occurred in Florida.
In an historic move earlier this week, President Biden commuted the death sentences of 37 of the 40 federal death row prisoners. Their sentences will be commuted to life in prison without parole. According to news reports, the crimes underlying two of the prisoners’ death sentences occurred in Florida. Daniel "Homer" Troya and Ricardo “Ricky” Sanchez, Jr., both 41, were sentenced to death for murders that occurred in St. Lucie County in 2006.
According to the TC Palm, “St. Lucie County Sheriff Keith Pearson on Monday, said Troya and Sanchez’s commutations were ‘disheartening.’” A Forbes article with more from Sheriff Pearson can be read here.
