Florida Supreme Court oral arguments this week
The Florida Supreme Court returns from its summer break this month. The Court will hold three days of oral arguments beginning Wednesday. One capital case is on the schedule.
The Florida Supreme Court recently returned from its summer break with regular opinion releases resuming on August 24. Oral arguments (OA) resume this month. The Court will hold three days of OA this month, beginning tomorrow.
There is one capital case on the schedule—Everett G. Miller’s direct appeal. The case is set for OA on tomorrow, September 6, at 9:00 a.m. You can watch the OA broadcast live here.
Miller was sentenced to death for the murders of Officer Matthew Baxter and Officer Richard “Sam” Howard of the Kissimmee Police Department, which occurred in August 2017. At the time of the murders, Miller was 45 years old.
The jury recommended a sentence of death for both murders. The recommendation was unanimous, as Miller was sentenced under Florida’s post-Hurst statute.
