Volusia County: Jean Macean takes life plea
In May, Macean agreed to plead no contest in exchange for the State taking the death penalty off the able and took a life sentence.
Jean Macean was charged with murdering Terry Aultman, 48, and Brenda Aultman, 55, at Dayton Bike Week in 2022. The State sought the death penalty.
In November 2023, the court had determined Macean was competent to proceed to trial.
Trial was set for October 2025.

The defense filed a motion to determine intellectual disability, arguing that Macean was ineligible for the death penalty under the Eighth Amendment due to intellectual disability. A hearing on the motion was set for September. Macean, through his attorneys, had also filed a notice indicating he would raise an insanity defense at trial.
In May, Macean agreed to plead no contest in exchange for the State taking the death penalty off the able and took a life sentence. Following the plea, the court sentenced Macean to life in prison without parole (LWOP). According to reporting from the Daytona Beach News-Journal, Macean’s attorneys read a statement for Macean in court that said he was “very sorry for killing the Aultmans.” Macean stated he “suffered from mental illness for a long time” and acknowledged he “did a bad thing, but that is not who I normally am.” Macean’s statement continued: “I know that your family will be hurting forever – I’m truly sorry. They did nothing that night to deserve to die.” Further, he “apologized to his own family for his actions and thanked them for their support.”
Jean Macean, a black man, "randomly" murdered two White people. According to the FBI UCRs, a White person is 22-times more likely to be murdered by a black person than vice versa. In addition, blacks commit 90% of interracial black and White crime. Life in prison is too good for this savage.
