Well actually 2 calls/week. But I know it for a fact, I’m president/founder of FCADP and we’re actually advocating on this restriction.

“ Inmate are allowed to make two social calls, of their choice if people are on approved list, per week by them sending a request to the Warden.” That was from the DOC back in May.

By the way thank you for your work.

Well, for your information, when death warrants are signed, inmates in FL are transferred to FSP. They are then entitled to only 1 call per week with warden’s approval for each call, and these calls can be made to a very restricted list of people, the people James Barnes used to call may not be on that list and he may not be able to call anyone.

Thanks, Claudine. You are correct that, per DOC policy, prisoners are transferred from UCI to FSP when a warrant is issued. You are also correct that a prisoner's visitation list is "frozen" when a warrant is issued, so no one can be added throughout the warrant period. I am not sure about the call restrictions while a person is on death watch, but I have reached out to DOC to see if they can confirm the policy.

How come records of visitations, pen pals and calls weren't mentioned in Duane Owen's or Darryl Barwick's cases? What would be the significance in this case?

Every case is different. For example, a lot of time was put into reviewing the history and following the litigation surrounding Owen's 3.811 claim. In this instance, the visitation and call records are another piece of information that help tell the story leading up to Barnes's scheduled execution. If this is something readers are interested in, I will try to obtain and include the information in the future.
