Does Gov. DeSantis have to be in the state when an execution happens? Meaning, is there a final action he must take that requires him to be in the state at the time of an execution?

Good question! I'm not aware of any formal requirement, but the Lethal Injection Protocol requires that the execution chamber have an open line of communication with the Governor's office throughout the process. It does not necessarily require the Governor himself to be there. If he is out of the country, it seems to be a change in his attitude toward executions. I had heard before that he and his family did not have any public appearances the day of an execution.
