Charles Anderson resentenced to life
After receiving a new penalty phase after Hurst, Charles L. Anderson has been resentenced to life in prison.
Charles Anderson has been resentenced to life. He was awaiting resentencing, which was granted in light of Hurst.1 The docket is unclear, but it appears the State waived the death penalty on resentencing.
In 1999, Anderson was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death for crimes that occurred in 1994 following a Broward County jury’s recommendation for death by a vote of 8-4.1
The Florida Supreme Court affirmed Anderson’s convictions and sentence of death on direct appeal in 2003.2 His sentence of death became final in October 2003.
In 2017, after Hurst, the Florida Supreme Court granted Anderson a new penalty phase in light of the jury’s nonunanimous recommendation for death.3
Last month, a Broward County judge resentenced Anderson to life in prison without parole.
Anderson waived credit for time served.
