Deceased: Donald Bradley
Florida DOC records show that Donald Bradley died yesterday after over 25 years on Florida's death row.
According to Florida Department of Corrections (DOC) records, Florida death row prisoner Donald Bradley died Monday while in DOC custody after serving over 25 years on death row for crimes that occurred in Clay County in 1995.
Bradley was 64 years old.
The cause of Bradley’s death is unclear. (Update: A reader said that he had brain cancer.) State policy requires that an autopsy be performed for all deaths; however, those records would only be accessible through a public records request.
*TFDP’s 2024 Year in Review post from last week (available here) has been updated to reflect Bradley’s death.
Background on Bradley’s Sentence of Death
Bradley was sentenced to death following a jury’s recommendation for death by a vote of 10-2 for crimes that occurred in 1995. On direct appeal in 2001, the Florida Supreme Court affirmed Bradley’s sentence of death.1
Bradley was denied Hurst relief in 2018 because his sentence became final before the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2002 decision in Ring v. Arizona.2
Bradley v. State, 787 So. 2d 732 (Fla. 2001).
