Today, the Death Penalty Information Center issued a report on the Hurst resentencing proceedings that have occurred to date in the State of Florida.1
According to DPIC’s research, “82% of Florida death-sentenced prisoners who completed new sentencing proceedings under Hurst v. Florida (2016) have been resentenced to life in prison without parole.” The report also gives an update on the status of all of the cases in which the defendant was eligible for Hurst relief, with in-depth discussion of several specific cases.

This percentage of life sentences appears to defeat the Hurst decision alltogether.
