Duval County: Arthur Martin resentenced to life
After the State agreed to waive the death penalty, the Duval County trial court resentenced Martin to life in prison.
Arthur Martin was sentenced to death for crimes that occurred in 2009 following the jury’s recommendation for death by a vote of 9-3.1 Following Hurst, Martin was granted a new penalty phase.2
With his resentencing pending, Martin filed a motion to bar the death penalty due to intellectual disability. On the day before Martin was supposed to be evaluated by the State’s expert, the State cancelled the evaluation and agreed to waive the death penalty.
On Tuesday, as a result of the State’s waiver, the Duval County trial court sentenced Martin to life in prison.
