Anthony Wainwright’s execution is scheduled for June 10 at 6:00 p.m. Today, the Florida Supreme Court dismissed his petition for writ of habeas corpus due to his lead counsel's refusal to adopt it.
Mr. Johnson. I have been in the legal profession myself for over 34 years in Florida, and I feel confident in saying that you are completely missing the point. It doesn't matter what Wainwright is thinking! He lost his rights when he consciously decided to rape, torture and brutally murder an innocent stranger who was a wife, mother of 2 babies, and my best friend since childhood, over THIRTY-ONE (31) YEARS ago! He admitted as much at his trial. He has had in excess of 7 appeals and NONE of them have any new information or defense since they started in 1994. I hope God has his justice robe on and sends him straight to hell where he belongs. WTH is wrong with you!
As a 45-year trial lawyer (now retired) with a dozen death trials in the 1980s New Orleans area, I do not think I have seen a more bonkers post-trial situation. What must Wainwright be thinking now? God have mercy on his soul...
I read an interesting article in the Washington Post from about 10 or 12 years ago about his lead counsel. I hope I have the cognitive abilities to engage in high stakes life or death litigation when I am in my 80s and have publicly disclosed my health condition to WaPo.
